We the People of the United States, <\/strong>in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.<\/p>\n

The Preamble<\/a> serves as an introduction, outlining the purpose of the Constitution.  The first three words of the U.S. Constitution, \u201cWe the People” signifies that the government’s power comes directly from its citizens, not from a king or rulers. It establishes “popular sovereignty<\/a>,” indicating the people are in charge and the government exists to serve them.<\/p>\n
