The 2021 Ride for Liberty Relay

In 2021, after the group doubled in size, we decided to do it again. Focusing on the threats to our voting rights, Liberty Riders carried banners across the country throughout the summer, demanding voting rights protections.

The Liberty Ride,  We Ride For Liberty For All
In September 2020 one hundred and thirty-six progressive minded patriot motorcycle enthusiasts scattered around the country set out to reclaim the word Liberty and the American symbols that have long stood to represent the American dream and the founding father's aspirations of the more perfect Union that is every true American patriot's duty to strive for. Why? Tantamount to the tyranny that compelled the founding fathers to claim their inalienable right to Liberty and declare their independence from Kings, American patriotic symbols and even some of America's most progressive heroes like Lincoln, JFK, MLK and others being used to bolster the most un-American ideologies, compelled myself and others to do something. Because we are bikers and it was the middle of the pandemic, we decided to create a relay from coast to coast to show our reverence for the more perfect union the founding fathers envisioned and risked everything for. Relaying the United States Declaration of Independence, our Constitution, it's Bill of Rights, and for those who forgot that all means all of us, we included the Emancipation Proclamation. Making every effort to bolster not only the Preamble to the U.S Constitution but also the words our founding fathers chose to declare their independence from KINGS, we hoped those who had forgotten might remember what liberty actually means and patriotism and United looked like. That first year, our mission was simply to serve as a reminder that the founding fathers didn't mince words when they debated and then penned the founding documents of these United States. In both their Declaration of Independence and later the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution, the words unalienable rights , liberty and equality had been carefully chosen and much blood was shed in the civil war over whether liberty and justice for all means everyone. We set out to show that true patriotism was not about loyalty to any one man but a reverence for the foundation this country was built on. Creating an unbreakable chain from rider to rider across every state border, we hoped to illustrate what United looks like to those hell bent on dividing us in order to conquer us and the unwary (mostly otherwise decent folks), who aid and abet their efforts out of ignorance, cowardice or complacency, but also to give a voice to those too afraid or unable to speak up or out. Those first Liberty Riders and every rider that joined later, came from every walk of life, race, religion and identity, united on the common ground that the words our founding fathers used to Declare their Independence were infallible in their Declaration then and equally so still today, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness".For the past 5 years Liberty Riders carried, signed and handed these documents off from one true patriot to the next across state borders from coast to coast with our numbers doubling in size each year. Each year we pleaded with our Senators and House Representatives to meet us in D.C and receive these documents as the final hand off in recognition of the More Perfect Union which We the People are obligated to continue to aspire to, but none could make the time. Many of us devoted countless hours to organizing the relay each year and many more rode a helluvalotta miles to make it happen. I myself lived and breathed the relay these past 5 years, it consumed me and has been among the greatest challenges, honors and achievements in my life. From August 2020 through the summer of 2024 there was not a stranger I met or conversation I was apart of that I didn't try to recruit others to join us. I am not exaggerating when I say that for every "Yes I am in!" I heard 100 no's. Many claimed they loved the mission but were not willing to openly show their support, many scoffed at what we were doing for one reason or another and many became belligerent once they learned to Ride for Liberty with us meant riding for liberty and justice for all. The notion that banning, suppressing, oppressing or denying anyone sovereignty averse to the very definition of Liberty as the founding fathers understood and risked all for, simply too unsettling for most I asked, to get behind, yet they professed us traitors and themselves the real American Patriots, some even making threats, although unsettling, it didn't stop us. Recruiting riders to join us was often disheartening but I never gave up. Believing that in spite of those trying to rewrite and whitewash our history, symbols and heroes values, America still stood for the land of the free because of the brave and that We the People meant all of us. We sought to prove this generation of Americans worthy of the courage our founding fathers had to have to dare envision a more perfect Union. Believing the sacrifices that have been made to establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity were the most basic of American principles, not politics to debate, certainly shouldn’t be what divides We the People of the United States.I swore not to give up or in and kept searching for the few bikers with ballz enough to say "I'm in" who had not forgotten the true definition of liberty and what it is that actually makes America great. I truly believed America was better than what the 2024 election has shown us to be. However as soon as the election was called I knew everything that made America great would be under constant assault for the next 4 years and would require the energy of every true Patriot to stand firm and unwavering, protecting this more perfect union our founding fathers envisioned and set us on the course to become. This is our duty and the debt we owe to all who have given their lives in the name of Liberty. Anything less is a dishonor to those who have fought and died for our freedom. As a country we are at a fork in the road, the direction we go will determine the world our posterity has to live with. Understanding that the Liberty Riders and myself would need to focus on making a difference in our families and communities during this dark time, I decided to take a break from the Liberty Rides in 2025 and though that decision has weighed heavy on my heart, I know many are making a real difference. It is an honor to call you my tribe. Interestingly as I have disconnected and gone silent here the interest in the Liberty rides has grown. I am humbled at just how much the number of followers of the liberty ride page has grown. We will do this crazy thing again in 2026, for now stand tall, be proud, get loud and be worthy of the sacrifices made for freedom. The Liberty Ride,  We Ride For Liberty For All
A couple of weeks ago the wife and I were standing in line at a Sun City Arby's for a quick bite. The line was eight deep when I noticed a old man with the name "Marines" on the back of his baseball cap. He and his "wife" were searching their pockets for change, having decided on getting the $6.00 Special of two fish sandwiches. As they stepped up to place their order, the old man his shaking hands holding little more than $6.00 in change, I excused myself in front of the waiting customers ahead of me to get to the counter. I heard several folks grumble about me cutting in front of them as I made my way to the cashier, but my wife, who had stayed in place, quietly said, just watch. The old man had placed his order of the fish sandwiches and for two water cups. He put his change on the counter and was about to push it to the cashier, when I put my hand on his shoulder and said "Semper Fi Marine", Thank You For Your Service this is on me. I gave the cashier a twenty dollar bill, and said let's start over. Immediately turning to look me in the eye, he responded with "Do or Die"! I helped him finish his order with milkshakes, fries, and a couple of turnovers for dessert. Both had teary eyes as they made their way to a table, and surprisingly so did most of the people I'd cut in front of getting to the counter. Except for the two big bikers who were directly in front of us. They claimed it was allergies that made their eyes leak. We finally received our order and headed to the dining area where we saw that the old couple had made room for us at their table. What had started out as a quick evening meal, ended up being an hour and a half long dinner engagement. I learned that he had slugged it out on both Saipan and later on Iwo Jima as a 19 year old, with Purple Hearts from both actions.
